What is TweetPress?

TweetPress is a WordPress plugin that gives you complete control over the photos you post to Twitter! It integrates with popular Twitter clients (such as Twittelator Pro) to allow you to host the photos you post to Twitter and Facebook.

Currently, when posting photos to Twitter, you must first post them to a 3rd party service (such as Twitpic) and then post that URL to Twitter.  Not only do you lose control over YOUR image gallery, but you are also sending Twitpic a significant amount of traffic that could be sent to your own website.

You can also upload photos to Twitter directly from the gallery page. Simply enter your Twitter credentials in the TweetPress admin and a form will appear on your gallery page.  Use this form to upload a photo and add the text to go with it.

How Does It Work?

TweetPress features a full API that allows Twitter clients to POST photos directly to your WordPress blog.  It will then return a shortened URL to YOUR image gallery hosted on YOUR wordpress page. You can view the demo of this plugin here.

Installation

  1. Download the TweetPress plugin for wordpress
  2. Upload it to your wp-content/plugins folder
  3. Activate it in your plugin admin page
  4. Make sure the directory wp-content/uploads is writable (TweetPress will warn you if it is not)

Configuration

  1. Go to the TweetPress settings page (located under the Settings) menu in wp-admin
  2. Select which page you would like the gallery to appear on (I would suggest creating a new page).  If you don’t select a page, it will put the gallery on your homepage
  3. Check the “Posting Requires a WordPress account” if you want to restrict posting of images only to users who have an account on your WordPress site.  If this box is unchecked, anyone will be able to post to your WordPress blog.
  4. If you want to post from your gallery page: Add your Twitter username and password in the TweetPress config page in the WordPress admin.  A form will appear on your gallery page that will allow you to upload photos and add the tweet text.

Now, just set your image hosting service inside the TwitterClient you are using to TweetPress.  Enter in the URL of your blog, username and password (if you require registered users to post) and you should be good to go.

Why Should I Use TweetPress?

  1. Full control over the images you post to Twitter
  2. Drive more traffic to your own website rather than some 3rd party site
  3. Customizable image gallery
  4. Maintain the rights to YOUR photos
